Summary of Club Activities Submitted to Royal
Dispatch by Kaye Walsh,
President, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Hawaii Our Hawaii Club really started to get into the swing of operations in 2007. At the end of the year we had almost 80 active members and held six events. More island residents are finding us and our membership continues to grow. The Club participated with
a booth in Pet Expo, a huge extravaganza celebrating all types of pets on
Mother’s Day weekend, which is held annually. We had just ordered our first
batch of Club logo shirts, we had a slide show and at least four members
“benched” their dogs for an hour or so each day of the Expo, handed out
brochures and answered questions about the breed. The Cavs showed their
wonderful personalities to all the visitors. We will participate again this
year. The Cavs went on two Club
hikes in our beautiful islands, showing that they aren’t just for pretty. They
make wonderful trail dogs, obedient, staying close and enjoying the smells and
companionship of the other Cavs. We held two Club Potlucks,
one in the park in the summer with lots of galloping Cavs enjoying the grass and
the members enjoying talking about their Cavs while enjoying wonderful island
food. We are fortunate to have a member who is a veterinarian and he gave a very
informative talk and handout on first aid in the event of accident or health
matters. In October we held the
Halloween Bash at the Beach and Annual Meeting with 44 Cavaliers in costume
vying for one of the many beautiful ribbons. We introduced our newest
Champion to those who hadn’t seen him in the ring. We have very few show
Cavaliers so we are very proud of our Champions. We have held several Fun
Matches in our first two years of operation during our events and are
considering holding a Mock Cavalier Specialty Day to introduce many of our
members to the show ring and encourage more participation in the AKC shows
available to us in the islands. We finished out our year with a December Cookie Exchange and Walk Around the Park. The Cavaliers (and some owners) were in Christmas finery and all who saw us walk in our beautiful downtown Honolulu Kapiolani Park certainly wore smiles for the rest of the day. We urge all Cavalier people to contact us through our website cavalierclubofhawaii.org when they are coming to Oahu on vacation to see if we are having an event while you are visiting. You would be very welcome to join us and share in some Cavalier Aloha.
