Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Hawaii March 2011 Newsletter by,
Kaye Walsh, President Thanks to everyone who
came to the Summer Picnic in the Park last month. We had 43 people and 36
Cavaliers and lots of great food, a presentation by Aloha Pet Care on assessing
the health of your Cavalier and a great Fun Match. Congratulations go to Jordy,
our Best of Breed, and to Hokulani, our Best Veteran. We all need to be reminded
that our Cavaliers can age gracefully and still be beautiful and healthy after
eight years of age. Many of us now have Cavaliers that age and will be dealing
with "senior" issues in the coming years. Several of us attended a
First Aid class from Kym several weeks later and I really do feel more confident
in dealing with an emergency situation with my Cavs. The Fall series of dog
shows starts next weekend with the Leeward shows at Barber's Point, followed by
HKC at the Blaisdell on Labor Day weekend and then Windward at King
Intermediate. Our Club entries are slowly growing and we do have a lot of fun
together, so please consider coming to join us and cheer them on. We will have
ring times on the Club website as we learn them. The
times for Cavaliers to be in the ring at Leeward are 10:30 on Saturday and 9:30
on Sunday so if you live over on that side of the island, come on down. The Waimanalo Puppy Mill
case continues to grind on without resolution. There have been numerous delays
while these dogs wait and their foster families continue to care for them hoping
they will be surrendered legally to the Humane Society so they may be
permanently adopted. As many of you know, three of the Cavaliers from there are
being fostered with Club members. You can keep up with the proceedings by
contacting the Humane Society, or on their website, and they are hoping for
people to come out and demonstrate when the trials do start. I can report that
the Cavaliers in members' care are doing well and are very happy in their foster
homes. The Humane Society constantly looks for new foster homes to care for
these dogs, some of which are puppies which were born after the seizures (some
70 puppies) and the litters must be split up and cared for. Just recently they
sent out an email looking for foster families for six month old Beagle puppies
as well as larger dogs. There were no Cavalier puppies born after the seizure or
we would already have been involved in their care. Halloween
