Summer Picnic and Cavalier Play Day - Saturday, August 7, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM - Waikiki Playground (directly behind Kapiolani Park A permit as been given for our annual Summer Picnic and Cavalier Play Day by the Parks Department on a weekend which does not conflict with any large event in Kapiolani Park. This is our usual place and parking should not be a problem. The Club will provide cold drinks, bottled water and all paper products and everyone should bring their Cavaliers, their chairs and a dish to share. We will again have a Swap Meet if you have any items you bought and now don't need and a Show and Tell if you have any great product ideas to share with us. We have eleven new human members to welcome to the Club and quite a few Cavalier additions to existing members, all of whom we will introduce at the party. In addition, Judy Kainuma, owner of The Dog Shop in Kailua, a Club member and proud parent of two Cavaliers, will be giving a presentation on grooming your Cavalier (Q: What is a Cavalier with a summer cut - A: a beagle with hairy ears?).
Facebook Group Brian has started us a Facebook Group which we invite all club members who use Facebook to join. Questions come up from time on recommendations, questions, etc. and we could use it as a forum. It is a "closed" group and we will only allow club members to join. Just enter the Club name on Facebook, it will take you to the Group and you then request to join. As soon as we get the request, it will be accepted and we can communicate with each other in an easy, and hopefully helpful way. If anyone has any ideas to start some lines of inquiry or "discussions", just post once you are in and we will take it from there. There are links to Hawaii dog friendly parks and beaches, local dog shows, etc. and we welcome any ideas for other useful links. Pet Expo Weekend Thank you again to everyone who volunteered in our breed booth at Pet Expo. As you can see, at one point we had a LOT of Cavaliers ready to visit with guests who stopped at our booth. At the end of the weekend, we had five pages full of people signing up with an interest in our breed or were Cavalier owners considering joining with us. Emails were sent to all inviting them to our Summer Picnic and giving them information on our website and joining the Club. Special thanks to Joanne Fujimoto who had her beautiful Cavaliers in the Parade of Breeds representing us so well.

Really Cute Black & Tan Puppy looking for a home
Tri Male looking for a
home A very handsome young
male from a leading kennel in Australia is looking for a home. It was hoped that
when he came to Hawaii as a puppy he would make it to the show ring, but even
though he has wonderful markings and a beautiful coat, the owner doesn't think
he would do well in the ring. That means that a quality dog is available as a
loving family pet. If you are interested, please give me a call at 237-8472 and
I will put you in touch with the owner. She is asking $1,500 for him. We are
leaving on a trip, Tuesday June 29, so if you want to see him, please contact me
right away.
Annual Meeting and
Halloween Party - Saturday, October 9, 2010 Don't forget to put this
date on your calendar for our biggest event of the year which will again be held
at the lovely beach home of the Worrall-Dailey's in Laie. Costume contest, games
and lots of great food. Lots of time still to work on those costumes! If there
is anyone who wishes to serve on the Board of Directors or as an officer, please
let me know. The current Board will be discussing nominations in August. Puppies and Rehoming If anyone is interested
in adding another Cavalier to your family, please let me know. I maintain a list
of people interested in puppies or rehoming of an adult Cavalier and provide
that information to anyone in the Club with a litter. Rarely does a week go by
that we don't have an inquiry through the website or by telephone from people
looking for a Cavalier and sometimes phone calls from someone needing to rehome.
The Hawaiian Humane Society has hired a new adoption supervisor and I believe we
now have an understanding with him that our Club will help find a home for any
Cavalier that should end up at the shelter. The Cavalier that was there for two
weeks several months ago could have gone to a new home much quicker if we had
known he was there. If you are interested in being on a list of people who could
quickly go to the Humane Society downtown to assess a Cavalier, please let me
know. It is my understanding that since they can't know if a dog is purebred,
they are always listed as a "mix", but it's very easy to tell. The
quicker we get the information, the quicker we can help to find them a home. Windward Dog Park
Organization During the past several
years several people have tried to establish a dog park on the Windward side
somewhere in Kaneohe without success. Several sites have been suggested, but
nothing has ever come of the efforts due to problems with the Parks Department,
access, neighbor issues, etc. There is an existing non-profit corporation and a
website (windwarddogpark.org) which have been somewhat dormant and some of us
are going to revive the effort again. If you would like to be on the mailing
list and come to a meeting later in the summer, please let me know. We probably
won't be very active again until a new city administration takes over, but we
would like to get organized and see how much support we have. There is a really
nice park area behind the Bay View Golf Course (past Puohala Elementary School)
that was completed by the contractor but never turned into a park by the City
due to road access issues and I believe that will be the location that the group
will try to have designated as the park. It's a great location with no houses
nearby, has a comfort station, is fenced in and has a paved parking lot. It was
supposed to be a neighborhood park, but part of it could certainly be used as a
dog park. |
