March 11, 2006 General Membership Meeting, Potluck and Doggy Playday

Well, all those who kept good thoughts in their hearts for sunny weather on March 11th are to be congratulated.  We had a beautiful day for our 1st Annual Potluck and Doggy Playday at the Johnson's with over 40 members and guests attending and at least that many beautiful Cavaliers, represented by all the colors, Blenheim, Tri, Ruby and Black & Tan.

We inducted two new Members into the Club, we adopted a new Club logo and introduced our new website   and our Webmaster, Jim Arcate, to the Club.  Please check it out.  There are pictures from the party, copies of the Club documents, the Club logo, the Membership application for anyone you may meet who would like to join the Club, and copies of our newsletters and party information.

The Costume Party was a great success with Molly, who owns Tony and Brie Roberts, masquerading as Paris Hilton, our Winner (picture on website).

As in all potlucks, we had quite a great assortment of food, pupus, salads and desserts of all sorts and even mochi ice cream, more than enough for everyone, and Gary Johnson ran a red hot grill with hamburgers and hotdogs eaten as fast as he could cook.

Frank Yamashita, our President, conducted a mini-seminar on conformation shows and we moved on to the Fun Match.  Eleven males and eleven females entered, and great fun was had by all.  We awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and Best of Match.  Our Best of Match was Beemer, who owns Bari Younce (pictures on website - see I'm teasing - no pictures - so you will go check out the website to see them).  The ribbons were beautiful; they contained a button in the middle with the Club logo and match information.  We certainly had more entries after everyone saw those ribbons!  Prizes were awarded to all winners, from shirts to socks to notepads, everything with Cavaliers on them.  Bet we'll have even more entries next time.

After the match, Bless Ouchi gave us a demonstration of an obedience trained Cavalier and of course we all wished ours behaved so well.

During the day, printed Membership Certificates were distributed to all members present.  If you were unable to attend, I will always have them with me at Club events and will take them with me to the shows in April.

During the party Gerald Luke acted as our official photographer and took hundreds of pictures.  After the match he made quite a few CD’s and gave them to the members as a gift.  If any of our members missed out, please contact him at gcylbz@lava.net or 737-0073 and he will be glad to provide one to you.

Everyone was having such a good time that the party didn't really start to break up until about 5:30 when all those Cavaliers started to fall asleep exhausted after a wonderful day.

Several items were left behind, a gold-rimmed bowl which contained potato salad, a pair of black clogs and a black and white flowered cooler bag.  Please call Melanie Johnson at 235-9007 to reclaim.

Events and Park Get-togethers

We know that everyone who came had a great time and are looking forward to our next event.  During the early part of the meeting, we requested all the members to think about what events they would like their Club to hold.  We had a suggestion of meeting at the local official off leash dog parks and perhaps meeting at Kailua Beach , even though leashes there are required.  There is a newly approved dog park downtown by the Ala Wai Canal . Gerald Luke has been involved and knows all about it.  Yet another reason for members to get in touch with him at his email listed above.

Several members would like to get together more frequently and I will be glad to put together an email list of anyone who would like to part of a group.  I have been very careful to keep all our email addresses private and not distribute, so if you would like to be part of a group of shared addresses, please let me know and I will do so.

Are there a few members who would like to be the point person for a particular park?  We could have an email group of everyone who is interested in getting together at a particular park and one person could be responsible for sending out emails and saying, “Let’s get together.”  A member could be part of one or all of the park groups.  Please let me hear from you and I will set it up.

We need your input to make the Club successful, so please send us suggestions, which I will distribute to all the directors.  There are members who are interested in obedience and Rally (Bless and Judy Ouchi say you need to do obedience first before Rally and they have been doing this for 25 years).

There are conformation shows coming up in April Tropical Toy at Thomas Square on Sunday April 9th, and Windward Dog Fanciers on the grounds at King Intermediate on April 15th & 16th.  We will post information on the website as soon as we know what time the Cavaliers will be in the ring.
