Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Hawaii April 2010 2nd Newsletter by,
Kaye Walsh, President Pet Expo - Saturday and Sunday, May 8 and 9 Pet Expo is right around the corner and we still need a few people to help in the booth, especially on Sunday morning. We have a new Club brochure to give to people truly interested in the breed or those who have a Cavalier so they might wish to join the club. Everyone always has a good time at Expo, both talking to visitors to our booth and just enjoying the Expo experience which you can do before or after booth time. There is terrific doggy shopping also. If you can spare a little time, please let me know. Next Cavalier Play Day at Hawaii Kai Dog Park -Sunday, May 2 at noon A reminder for those of you who live close enough to this really nice dog park to join with some of your Cavalier friends for some play time. The date for each month's event is always on the website. Please remember to check out the website occasionally as we keep updated information on events, etc. Planning for Summer Picnic in the Park Would like to hold our Summer Picnic in the Park either early in June or in August this year. If anyone knows of any huge conflicts in early June or August, please let me know. It's much better when we don't have to compete at the park with big events. A Feel-Good Cavalier "Tail" An email was sent to me from a person interested in Cavaliers who is on a waiting list for puppies. She happened to go by the Humane Society and saw a Cavie that the Humane Society said was a "mix". Brian and I went to take some pictures and information so we could post it to the members and see if we could find him a home. Well, he ain't no mix, but he surely didn't look very good, thin and since he had just been neutered by the Humane Society, he had really been shaved down. He was a stray, no microchip, and had been at the HHS for two weeks when we got there. (I know, I know, why can't I get them to call me when a Cavalier comes in - I and several members have tried to have them call, obviously to no avail) We asked to see "Snickers" and they broadcast for a volunteer to come and take him out of the cage to a pen where we could work with him and take some pictures. A charming lady volunteer who hadn't been to HHS for several weeks came to the cage and took him to the pen with us while we talked to him, got him to play a little, took some pictures and we talked for a long time about the breed. He was friendly and not afraid, just thin and unhappy about his circumstances. Our volunteer became very interested. Her last child is in college, she is semi-retired, and has a home with a fenced yard. She had been thinking about adopting a dog and guess what! - she took Snickers home, with a stop at the Kahala Pet Store for lots of goodies. I have heard from her that he is well, gaining weight, sleeps on her bed and loves chasing lizards. We hope to see them soon at a Cavalier event.
Kualoha Ranch Fun "Run" Those of us who attended the Fun Run at the Ranch on April 10 had a beautiful day and a great time. Our great photographer, Gerald Luke, took these pictures on the trail and the last stragglers at the Finish.
Club Cutie
gets her first point at Tropical Toy - April 11, 2010 This beautiful little girl, Akahi Chablis de la Belle Chateau ("Chablis"), owned by Esther Ohta and handled by Gerald Luke, got her first point at her first dog show. She is the daughter of Ch. Akahi Bella Nalo Whisper ("Bella"), and the handsome Teddy who was in our last newsletter looking for a new home.
Annual Meeting and Halloween Party - Saturday, October 9, 2010 Put the date on your calendar now, start thinking about your Cavalier costume and be sure to be on island for our big event. Beth Worrall Daily has graciously invited us to her lovely beach home again this year. Last year's event was a huge success. We will have games, our costume contest, lots of good food and prizes. Last but not least, still waiting for dues from quite a few members for 2010. Just $15 this year. PO Box 628, Kaaawa, HI 96730 |
