Hawaiian Kennel Club Show, Tropical Toy Winner, and Windward Dog Show this weekend

Gerald Luke and his new puppy, Koa, did very well at the HKC and Valley Isles shows earlier in September. KOA was Best of Winners two days and he is shown below with his winning ribbon. See Gerald smile!! There was even a celebratory cake!!

This weekend, October 2 and 3, Windward Dog Fanciers are holding their Fall shows at King Intermediate. There are 12 Cavaliers entered both days including puppies of some of our Club members and the very handsome Teddy. The Cavaliers will be in Ring 4 on Saturday at 11:30 AM (after only 8 other dogs) and in Ring 2 at 10:30AM (after 23 dogs - so they most likely won't be on until 11:30 or so) on Sunday. Many of us will be there to cheer them all on, especially for those who are new to the Ring. It will be a beautiful day, so please come and say Hi.

Tropical Toy B Match  You may remember Teddy from an earlier newsletter. He was rehomed to Summer Commander, our lovely, excellent Junior Handler. Teddy was entered in the B Match held by Tropical Toy several weeks ago and was named Best of Breed! It is hard to recognize Teddy these days, he has trimmed down and his coat has been brought to new heights. So handsome! Several of our members participated in the B Match as it is a type of "Fun Match" for a club going through the hoops for AKC. Even though the Judge is a qualified AKC Judge it is a more relaxed atmosphere, it was a good time for some new "handlers" to get their feet wet in the Ring and we all had fun. Lokelani, Milo, Eli Manning and Hana are shown here with Teddy.

Christmas Cookie Exchange and Walk in the Park - Saturday, December 4, 2010 - Waikiki Playground

We have a date and a Permit for our annual Christmas Party so put the date on your calendar. The marathon is the following weekend, so we won't have any parking problems for our party. Details later.

It's Time for the Big One!!

Look for the Club banner and balloons on the fence on the makai side of the road

It's Party Time! and only two weeks until our biggest event of the year again hosted by the Dailey's at their lovely beach home. Do you have your costumes ready? Try to arrive by 1:00 PM so we can have our Annual Meeting, and introduce our new members and directors. Bring your potluck dish and be ready for lots of Cavalier fun. For our 4th Annual Costume Contest we have great prizes for each of 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the males and for the females as well as beautiful ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall. We will have games for you and your Cavalier to also win prizes. There are mugs, ceramic tiles, luggage tags, note cards, sandstone coasters, bookmarks, notepads, playing cards, trivets, a stickypad holder  - everything with different Cavaliers on them, Blenheims to B&T's. So get ready and practice for:

(We won't try the Bobbing for Hotdogs again - only one Cavalier was willing to even try and gobbled quite a few!)

Race to Owner - One team member releases the Cavalier to run to the other team member at the Finish Line

Egg Race - Teams coordinate with their Cavalier (on leash) to run carrying an egg on a spoon on a relay to each other

Kissing Contest - The best Cavalier kisser wins (someone will have to work hard to beat Lokelani at this one!)

Water Relay - At the start line (with Cavalier on leash) one member fills a small cup, races with the Cavalier to the finish line to fill a larger cup. Continue until the big cup is full

Find the Treat - 3 pots each with a treat under it, the Cavalier has to find the treat under the right pot - fastest Cavalier wins

Musical Sit - Owners walk their Cavaliers around in a circle, while music plays, and when the music stops, the Cavaliers must sit. The last Cavalier to sit is "out," and the game continues minus this Cavalier, continuing until there is a winner.

            ----------------------------------

A list of probable attendees is necessary so that we will know approximately how many people and Cavaliers to expect and have enough drinks and supplies on hand. Please let me know as soon as possible if you will be attending, how many people and how many Cavaliers.

Don’t forget your lawn chairs. The Club will provide tables, cold water and drinks, and paper products. Our hosts are providing a beautiful home right on the beach with expansive lanais for shade when you need it and a fenced yard for the Cavaliers.

A map and driving instructions are below, so please print and bring with you. Call if you are on the road and need information: 284-3109 or 284-5328.

From the H1 you need to go towards Kaneohe either via the Pali or the Likelike Hwy.

Pali: From the H1, take Exit 21B at 1, the Pali Hwy (Route 61, North). After about 8 miles, at the first traffic light after the tunnel, turn left onto Kamehameha Hwy toward Kaneohe. After about 2 miles, at the intersection with Likelike Hwy at 3 (or Kaneohe Bay Drive), turn left (Burger King on your left). After half a mile, at the second light turn right onto Route 83 Kahekili Hwy.

Likelike: From the H1, take Exit 20A at 2, the Likelike Hwy (Route 63, North). Follow 63 North towards Kaneohe over the mountains through the tunnel for 7.5 miles to 3 the first exit to Route 83 Kahekili Hwy.  This is where people have a tendency to get confused. Remember that you are getting off the Likelike at the first exit after the tunnel. If you come to a busy intersection with a Burger King on your right you have gone a little too far. You should then go through that intersection, make the first available u-turn and go back through that intersection, then through the next red light, then turn right at the next intersection putting you back correctly on the Kahekeli Highway heading north.

Follow Route 83 North/West for approximately 21 miles to Laie. The Kahekili Hwy changes to the Kamehameha Hwy but you just keep going straight to Laie. When you see the Foodland grocery store and shopping center on your left, you are close, next you will see the Laie Temple and then the Laie Elementary School on your left. When you are just about to pass the School, then the house is immediately on your right. Parking is tricky, so try to park at the School or on the side street next to the school. The party is at 55-599 Kamehameha Highway, the home of Eli Manning.

We will have our cell phones with us  (808)284-3109 or (808)284-5328 and you can call if you make any wrong turns.
